Learning objectives

What the syllabus expects you to be able to do.

  1. 3.3.1Papers 2 and 3: relate sec, cosec and cot to cos, sin and tan, and use the properties and graphs of all six functions.
  2. 3.3.2Papers 2 and 3: use identities, including sec²θ ≡ 1 + tan²θ, cosec²θ ≡ 1 + cot²θ, the compound-angle and double-angle formulae and the forms R sin(θ ± α) and R cos(θ ± α), to simplify, evaluate exactly and solve equations.
