Learning objectives

What the syllabus expects you to be able to do.

  1. 1.1.1Describe how rulers and measuring cylinders are used to measure a length or a volume.
  2. 1.1.2Describe how clocks and digital timers are used to measure different time intervals.
  3. 1.1.3Find an average value for a small distance or a short time by measuring many multiples, for example the period of a pendulum.
  4. 1.1.4Supplement: explain the difference between a scalar (size only) and a vector (size and direction).
  5. 1.1.5Supplement: identify distance, speed, time, mass, energy and temperature as scalars.
  6. 1.1.6Supplement: identify force, weight, velocity, acceleration, momentum, electric field strength and gravitational field strength as vectors.
  7. 1.1.7Supplement: find the resultant of two forces or two velocities at right angles, by calculation or by scale drawing.
