About this syllabus

The ZIMSEC A-Level Physics course (Forms 5-6) is organised in seven areas. Form 5 covers general physics (physical quantities, units, errors and uncertainties), Newtonian mechanics (kinematics, dynamics, forces, work, energy and power, circular motion and gravitational fields), oscillations and waves (including superposition) and the first half of electricity and magnetism (current electricity, d.c. circuits, electric fields and capacitance). Form 6 covers electromagnetism, electromagnetic induction and alternating currents, analogue and digital electronics, matter (phases of matter, deformation of solids, temperature, thermal properties, ideal gases, non-viscous fluid flow and transfer of thermal energy) and modern physics (charged particles, quantum physics, atomic structure, radioactivity and communication). This outline comes from the Ministry teacher's guide and must be checked against the syllabus.

How you are assessed

Not confirmed for Physics. If Physics follows the other Forms 5-6 science syllabi of the same series: continuous assessment 30%, and examinations 70% made up of Paper 1 multiple choice (40 items, 1 hour, 11%), Paper 2 structured questions (1 hour 30 minutes, 60 marks, 17%), Paper 3 free-response questions (28%) and Paper 4 a practical examination (2 hours 30 minutes, 50 marks, 14%).
