About this syllabus
The ZIMSEC A-Level Statistics syllabus (Forms 5-6) develops data handling and statistical inference. It covers the collection and representation of data, measures of location and spread, permutations and combinations, probability including Bayes' theorem, discrete distributions (uniform, Bernoulli, binomial, geometric, Poisson), continuous distributions (probability density and cumulative distribution functions, rectangular, exponential and normal distributions), linear combinations of random variables, sampling, estimation and confidence intervals, hypothesis testing (binomial, z, t and chi-squared tests), linear regression and correlation, and time series.
How you are assessed
Continuous assessment (practical assignments, theory tests and a project) carries 30%. The examination carries 70% in two papers of 3 hours and 120 marks each: Paper 1, about twelve compulsory structured questions (35%); Paper 2, Section A about five compulsory questions for 40 marks and Section B five of seven 16-mark questions (35%).
