Learning objectives

What the syllabus expects you to be able to do.

  1. 1.1.1Measure length, area, volume, mass, time and temperature, reading instrument scales to the nearest fraction of a division (rulers, Vernier callipers, micrometer screw gauges, balances, stop-watches, thermometers, measuring cylinders).
  2. 1.1.2Find the density of liquids and of regular and irregular solids by experiment, and relate density to floating and sinking.
  3. 1.1.3Express quantities in SI units.
  4. 1.1.4Derive units such as the newton, joule, watt and volt from the base units.
