About this syllabus

ZIMSEC O-Level Chemistry (Forms 3 and 4) builds understanding of chemical concepts and principles and their safe, environmentally responsible use in everyday life and in Zimbabwe's industries, including mining and mineral beneficiation, fertiliser and acid manufacture, fuels, water treatment and waste management. Its content is grouped into physical, inorganic, organic and environmental chemistry, emphasises practical and enterprise skills, and assumes the Forms 1 and 2 Combined Science course.

How you are assessed

Under this syllabus the final grade combines continuous assessment (30%) with three examination papers (70%): Paper 1, multiple choice (1 hour, 40 marks, 20%); Paper 2, structured theory questions (2 hours, 100 marks, 40%); and Paper 3, a practical test of two 20-mark questions. Confirm the current scheme, because continuous assessment has been replaced by school-based projects under the Heritage-Based Curriculum.
