About this syllabus
The ZIMSEC A-Level Pure Mathematics syllabus (Forms 5-6) builds on O-Level Mathematics and Additional Mathematics. Form 5 covers algebra (indices and variation, polynomials, partial fractions, inequalities, logarithmic, exponential and modulus functions, relations and functions), coordinate geometry and curve sketching, vectors with the scalar product, sequences and series with the binomial expansion, trigonometry, differentiation and integration, and complex numbers in Cartesian form. Form 6 adds matrices and transformations, proof by induction, groups, lines and planes in three dimensions, further series (standard sums, differences, Maclaurin and Taylor), first-order differential equations, numerical methods and further complex numbers (polar form, loci, de Moivre's theorem).
How you are assessed
Continuous assessment (topic tasks, tests, end-of-term tests and a project) carries 30% and two summative papers carry 35% each. The syllabus does not print the papers' durations or marks; our practice papers assume three hours and 120 marks each (to be confirmed).
